According to the World Health Organization, Israel ranks 21 out of 22 European countries in terms of the ratio of abortions to births. In 2007, 20,919 women in Israel requested abortions from hospital committees working under the Health Ministry. 98% of the requests were approved. Of those approved, 55% of the women were pregnant due to illegal sexual relations or were unmarried, 18% of the women had physical or mental health concerns, 18% were carrying fetuses with birth defects, and 9% of the women were either under 17 or over 40.

My wife and I will be travelling to Israel in a few months. This is a very valuable and important site that we will continue to read with relish, as our trip gets nearer. What a remarkable idea.
